VIC TANTAU – 50’s BALSA MALIBU (SOLD)

SOLD

9’6″

1957 Similar to Balsa Pig

This was based on a lightweight Malibu from a Californian Life Saver who came to Australia for the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games.  Three Americans demonstrated their Balsa Boards whilst most of us were still riding Longboards or Toothpicks. Some Okanues in wood were similar size to the Balsa.

Vic’s first show room was the lawns in front of the Torquay Surf Club. He had Toothpicks, Longboards, Okanues, Surfskis and Balsas on display.  I purchased my first board from him 59 years ago!
